1-18-08 Behind the Scenes Footage

YouTube user veltliner1978 has posted several behind the scenes videos. Check them out here. He uses some strong language throughout, so if you have sensitive ears, you may want to turn down your volume.

1-18-08 Spy Footage Sneak Peek

The folks at IESB.net are flaunting some new spy footage from the 1-18-08 filming. They have a video posted, but it appears the majority of the footage, and a set report, will be released tomorrow (August 1, 2007) or later this week.

So without further ado, we present you the IESB Comic Con exclusive sneak peek of the Cloverfield/1-18-08/Monstrous (which JJ denied was the official name) spy footage.

OVERNIGHT: Possible Title?

"Overnight" is now the subject at hand. Could this possibly be the title of our movie? Thanks to malemunyon from unfiction for this lead.

Sorry if this has been posted already; a quick search didn't yield anything. I recently stumbled upon trademark #77232885, "Overnight." It was registered to Group One Productions, LLC, and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer on July 18, 2007, and described as "motion picture, television and music production and distribution services." The Attorney of Record for the trademark is Lori N. Boatright. She is also the Attorney of Record for "SLUSHO!," "SLUSHO! YOU CAN'T DRINK JUST SIX," and "BAD ROBOT", trademarks 77229623, 77229614, and 76340985, respectively. I googled for "GROUP ONE PRODUCTIONS, LLC," yielding nothing. The LLC, however, is registered in the State of Delaware, formed on 11-08-2006, with its registered agent being ERESIDENTAGENT, INC (search). It's just a resident agent service. Considering there's no real information on the company, I think it's just a hollow LLC, perhaps formed to conceal the real parties involved. They only own one trademark, "overnight." I then googled for "Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer." Jim Jackoway is an attorney, known to represent J.J. Abrams -- and happens to be the registrant for BadRobot.com. (whois search) What are the odds that a lawyer (Jackoway) who represents Abrams would register a trademark using the attorney of record who registered Slusho (Boatright)? Further googling shows no previous connection between Boatright and Jackoway. Is "Overnight" really the title of the film? As the trailer so eloquently stated, "this is going to be the best night ever..."

I guess we will see what happens.

CNBC Coverage of Comic-Con and 1-18-08

J.J. Abrams mystery movie comes to Comic-Con

Our own CameronJr9 (Scott Gibson) was recently featured in a segment of CNBC's "On the Money."

UPDATE: The video is now posted on YouTube. Hopefully it stays there. Thanks to Kyser Lough for uploading the original video!

Subscribe to the 1-18-08 Characters' MySpace Blogs

Project Cloverfield has compiled the blogs from all the characters' MySpace pages.

If you want to stay updated with the Myspace blogs that belong to the 1-18-08 cast, you can subscribe to each blog separately. However, if you would like to subscribe to just one feed that pulls in all seven blogs, you can subscribe to http://feeds.feedburner.com/projectcloverfield/myspace (alternatively you can add this syndicated feed: 11808blogs to your livejournal friends list.)
If you do not want to subscribe, but would rather just view on occasion, you can visit feeder.projectcloverfield.com/MyspaceBlogs/. However, do note that the timestamps that are being shown at Feeder are the actual timestamps that these entries were originally created. The dates that are posted at the blogs itself have been edit (backdated) to appear as if though they were posted months upon months ago.

There has also been a lot of talk about the significance of these MySpace profiles. Could the characters themselves give us clues to what this movie is about? While it's certainly possible, this blogger thinks the characters are as clueless as we are.

1-18-08 MySpace Pages

After reading the back of the newest photo on 1-18-08.com, I did a quick search for Jamie Lascano on MySpace. Wouldn't you know it, the site exists! She's also got some interesting friends. I think you might recognize a few of them. Check out her MySpace page.

Be sure to browse her friends' pages as well. It turns out Rob Hawkins and the guy wearing the Slusho t-shirt in the trailer (Jason) are brothers. Some of these guys even like the show LOST. Too bad they're probably going to miss the start of season four.

List of Confirmed Characters:
Rob Hawkins--MySpace Profile
Jason Hawkins--MySpace Profile
Marlena Diamond--MySpace Profile
Lily Ford--MySpace Profile
Jamie Lascano--MySpace Profile
Beth McIntyre--MySpace Profile
Hudson Platt--MySpace Profile

Thanks to jts1123 for suggesting I check out MySpace profiles. I also updated the IMDB page based on the names given on the MySpace pages. Hopefully they accept my edits.

Slusho Update

The Slusho site has been updated today as well. The Store (Buy a Slusho shirt!), Happy Talk (Read quotes from Slusho drinkers!), and Flavors sections all have content now. I noticed in the flavor section, there are six flavors portrayed by robots. You can combine flavors to create a giant Slusho robot. There's so much to read into that. What does it all mean?!

Six flavors, six robots...I wonder if that relates to what I said earlier?

Interactive Photos on 1-18-08

It now appears that you can turn over both of the "pre-chaos" photos. Thanks to a comment from Amok from Argentina for this tip.

YOU CAN TURN THE PHOTOS AROUND!!!

To flip the photo you have to take it to the top and make a quick right-left (or up-down) movement with the mouse while grabing the photo.

Photo # 5

The fifth photo has just surfaced on 1-18-08.com. Tagged at 12:04 a.m., this was taken just three minutes after Rob was being forced to drink for the camera. It's a close-up shot of Rob and two friends celebrating before the chaos. It looks like they're having a good time. They're all smiles and someone even has the token red Solo cup.

If you pay special attention to the guy in the middle, you'll notice that he's holding something. Could that be an HD camcorder. Could this be the guy behind the camera from our favorite movie trailer?

Comments are welcome!

New Furious and Terrifying Posters

Previously we saw the "MONSTROUS" poster. Two new posters have sprung up online. Both show the same scene from behind the decapitated Statue of Liberty, but the taglines are different. Now we have "FURIOUS" and "TERRIFYING."

Thanks to Project Cloverfield for the scoop.

My own view, as if you need to ask, is that many people have speculated about there being several monsters. We even blogged previously that there could be three monsters, each occupying either land, sea, or air. Perhaps these posters are leading us to read more into the Slusho site. "You Can't Drink Just Six."

Colossus Rumors

To update and speculate on what Spoony C reported yesterday, I've done some research of my own. Of course, we've learned (excuse us for not realizing it sooner) that Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin is indeed Colossus from The X-Men.

I have a hard time believing JJ Abrams is going to call his 1-18-08 project "Colossus." There's already a 2008 movie called "The Colossus" about the Boer War. Surely, Paramount doesn't want that kind of confusion.

Instead, I have a feeling Colossus may just be another pseudonym placed strategically on a movie poster. With nearly six months to go before this movie debuts, we might still have quite a while to wait before we really know what's going on.

On another note, the folks at Coudal Partners think they've found the answer to the monster. Honestly, I think it's quite clever. Check out their Major Spoiler Ahead post.

1-18-08 Comic-Con Audio and Video

The guys over at Movie Web have uploaded the audio from JJ's appearance. The reports we received yesterday afternoon were fairly spot-on. He seemed rushed, but that's understandable. He didn't really have too much information for the fans, and he is involved in so much more right now with Star Trek XI and Lost.

So check out the audio at Movie Web. Note: Only the first two minutes are JJ. The rest is about The Spiderwick Chronicles.

Audio of the 1-18-08 and The Spiderwick Chronicles Panels at Comic-con 2007

I also found this video on YouTube. Fast forward through the first minute and a half to see JJ up on the big screen.

Not just "Monstrous"

Ain't It Cool News's Harry Knowles has an apparent update on what "Monstrous isn't the title" really means:

Hey folks, Harry here.... I'm on the 101 north of San Francisco headed for Eureka, Ca to settle in tonight - and while driving, I had a bit of a Eureka moment with a spy revealing that the below MONSTROUS poster is the first of 3 teaser posters that will lead to the TITLE reveal poster. First we'll have "MONSTROUS" - next we will have "BARBAROUS" - then we will have "FEROCIOUS" - To me - these phrases are not even spoilers - but if you're like me - if MONSTROUS is a headless Statue of Liberty - what images go with BARBAROUS and FEROCIOUS? -- The title? Well, I don't want to spoil it, so you should go ask, Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin!

I'm not sure if Rasputin is the code name for his spy, or if he's trying to give us some sort of hint toward the title with that last line. But I'm with him--I can't wait to see what pictures go with the other buzzwords.

Cameron's CNBC Interview is Postponed...

Well gang, I just got the news. I'm kind of bummed. Not only am I not going to be on until tomorrow, but now I need to check my portfolio.

The market crashed so the segment has been postponed until tomorrow. It'll run
tomorrow night at 7 pm --

Julia Boorstin
CNBC - Media and
Entertainment Business Correspondent

So, be sure to check out CNBC's "On the Money" on Friday, July 27 at 7 p.m. And check Julia's blog for any hints on the 1-18-08 phenomenon. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to see some video from the interview...

News from Comic-Con

We have some news live from Comic-Con.

JJ Abrams just ran out for two seconds. "I want a monster movie." Didn't give
the title but said it's not called MONSTROUS.

Of course he could be joking.

More JJ: He said we'll see a trailer, etc. eventually, but now all we get is a poster of the headless Liberty. Film is almost done shooting.

Thanks to Whitney at Pop Candy who is at Comic-Con.

FirstShowing.net has some more in-depth information. Check it out.

2:22 - The original trailer in front of Transformers for Cloverfield / 1-18-08 debuts. JJ Abrams heads to the stage. His very quick statement on the film (as he'll be back for Star Trek XI):
“I want a monster movie, I've wanted one for so long. I was in Japan with my son and all he wanted to do is go to toy stores. And we saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong's adorable. I wanted something that was just insane and intense. It's almost done shooting and I watch dailies and I'm more excited for them than the trailer, which has had an overwhelming response.
We have 6 months before this comes out. We're going to have a whole bunch of things, a whole bunch more." He said a full trailer, more clips, full posters, and much more will be coming out over the next 6 monts, including the name, which he will NOT reveal today.
“You think we'd call it Monstrous? No…"
So, the film is NOT a Godzilla movie, it is an original monster movie, and
it is NOT called Monstrous!

Cinematical.com
has an update from Comic-Con. you'll have to scroll down to get to it. The
important stuff is below.

JJ Abrams comes out (wearing an Infocom shirt, to boot!) and in extremely rapid-fire fashion he tells us, "I wanted a monster movies, and had taken my son to Japan, and there were all these Godzilla dolls everywhere." *cheers from the audience* "However, I decided we needed our own monster. We're not showing any footage, but we're almost done shooting, and I think you'll love it. We aren't revealing a title today." *boos from the audience* "What would you think if we called it Monstruous?" *Puzzled reaction from crowd.* "Anyhow, we'll see. We have a new poster out, and you'll be getting that today. I can't wait for you to see this.. Bye!

P. S. I want that poster!!!!

Stay tuned for more details!

EW Article about Monstrous

Entertainment Weekly has just published some secrets. Apparently the poster we've all seen by now is real. But, the version shown on the EW Web site lacks a title. So, was the title fake? Or was that a test by JJ to see how the fans liked it?

Check out the article while we wait for more information from Comic-Con.

JJ's Mystery Movie: Secrets Revealed

As for the monster itself, contrary to Internet speculation, it isn't a parasite, and it ain't a colossal Asian robot, either. (Some suspected Abrams was mounting a live-action version of the Japanese anime/manga classic Voltron. Nope.)

Cameron's Monstrous CNBC Interview

I just got an e-mail from Julia Boorstin at CNBC asking for an interview. Looks like this little blog is getting some national recognition.

Hi Cameron-
I'm CNBC's media correspondent and I'm doing a segment today on J.J. Abrams making his presentation at Comic-Con. We think your blog is amazing and we'd love to interview you about it on camera for a taped segment on the Monstrous movie.
Where are you? And can we grab you for a quick 5 minute interview?

Thanks!
Julia

UPDATE: I just got home from talking with Julia Boorstin. The interview was fairly quick, and my ear piece kept shorting out. I'm sure it'll play well on camera. Be sure to check out the interview on CNBC's "On the Money" Friday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m. ET. Take a look at her blog at Media Money while you wait for any updates from JJ Abrams at Comic-Con.

Washington Post Article

The Washington Post has a decent article about the fans of the 1-18-08 trailer.

The current mysterious movie trailer has the release date "1-18-08." Fans looking online found the Web site 1-18-08.com, which featured pictures of the characters in the trailer. Watching the trailer frame-by-frame, some enthusiasts noticed that one of the characters was wearing a T-shirt for Slusho, a fictional beverage that had been mentioned in "Alias." Online sleuthing led to the Web site slusho.jp, a promotional site for the nonexistent Slurpee-like drink. Records showed that the Slusho Web site was registered before the trailer aired, indicating that the site almost had to be official.

But after the initial rush of discoveries, fans began to question: Where is the rest of the game? Unforums.com, a forum devoted to alternate-reality games, features more than 6,000 posts -- which have been viewed about 400,000 times -- from players searching for clues since July 3, when the trailer first appeared before the "Transformers" movie.

If they have indeed found a "rabbithole," the fans do not know how to enter, and they're left hoping that J.J. Abrams will unleash a white rabbit to lead the way.

Check it out.

Another Look at the Monstrous Poster

Click the picture for a super high-res version
. Now, I'm coming in a few hours late on this one. I'm not sure where this picture originated, but here it is. It's a much MUCH clearer shot of the poster we saw a couple of days ago. This time you can clearly see the date (1-18-08) and the Paramount Pictures logo. Check out the claw marks on Lady Liberty's back. How about the claw marks on a couple of the buildings in the background, and the helicopters hovering above them. Whatever this thing is, it's big. I'm excited!

I wonder if JJ and team will acknowledge this poster tomorrow at Comic-Con.

Cloverfield/Monstrous Mystery Solved?????

According to www.themovieblog.com, someone has figured the riddle that is JJ Abrams movie. It talks about the movie having 3 monsters. The first monster is Behemoth, which is an unconquerable monster of the land. Next we have Leviathan which is the primal monsters of the waters and the sea. Finally the third monster is Ziz, the primordial monster of the sky. They go onto explain that you can relate the monsters to the trailer. An earthquake relates to Behemoth, fire relates to Leviathon, and the flying Statue Of Liberty head is courtesy of Ziz. They also relate the 3 monsters to the 3 animals on slusho.jp not to mention the rest of the Web site. Say what you want it never hurts to have a theory. Here is a link to the full article.

Greg Grunberg to Appear in 1-18-08

TV Guide has more news about the Heroes cast being involved with JJ Abrams. It appears JJ's long-time friend, Greg Grunberg will make an appearance in Abrams' as-yet-unnamed movie.

One movie that Abrams is casting Grunberg in is the buzzerific disaster flick known only by its myriad working titles (i.e., Cloverfield, 1-18-08, Slusho). "It'll probably be something where no one will be able to tell it's me," he said. "As you know, J.J. calls me his good-luck charm, so he's got to put me in there somewhere. I actually went to the set the other night, and it was really exciting and cool. The budget is not astronomical. But they're doing incredible things."

Grunberg has appeared in Felicity and Alias, and had a small part as the pilot of Flight 815 in LOST.

LOST reference

Ok I'm sure by now LOST fans have already figured out the coincidence of the "release date" right?? If you just haven't been paying attention the release date is 1/08 just like 108! For those of you who aren't LOST fans there is a sequence of numbers that have a "reoccurring" role so to speak throughout the show. The numbers are 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. When you add those numbers together you get 108. We think is the release date is 1/08. Get it! I'm sure this is no coincidence on JJ Abrams part. He knows what he is doing is driving us crazy!

In other JJ news....

According to TV Guide, Zachary Quinto (best known as "Sylar" on Heroes) has been tapped to play a young Mr. Spock in J.J. Abrams's upcoming Star Trek film. Being as Trek is also a Paramount property, it's probably safe to assume that this will be as much a part of the Abrams/Paramount panel at Comic-Con as 1-18-08 will be. Hopefully, the Trek news won't overshadow the other project, and we'll still get plenty of news coming out of San Diego.

What If?

We've been reading a lot lately about this movie and so far there's not a whole lot of concrete information. I've talked a lot with JTS about some theories I've been throwing around lately. One of which I'll mention here. I figure this will be something to look back at in January and say, "See guys. I told you so!" Either that, or I'll be completely wrong. Either way, feel free to leave comments and let me know what you think. Am I on to something, or am I completely insane?

My theory is that we'll never see this monster. JJ Abrams and team have built an immense publicity machine shrouded in secrecy and misdirection. It’s actually probably bigger than they had ever imagined. And now that it’s working, now that everyone is hooked, I don’t think anything is going to live up to our expectations. No physical form can live up to the hype. If all reports so far are true, we know there are survivors, and they find a video camera after this monster wreaks havoc on NYC. The hand-held, personal video camera will be our only source of information. It will be our only viewpoint.

Sure, we may get shadows or a hint of a tail or a close up of an eye, but the cameraman (check the trailer, it is a man’s voice behind the camera) will surely be in terror. And since we know there are survivors, we can assume the military presence we’ve seen in a photo at www.1-18-08.com intervenes and brings the monster down. But, what is the likelihood this one camera, filmed by this one person, will be at the center of the action as the great beast is destroyed? Slim to none.

So, there you have it. I honestly don’t think we’ll ever see the monster. I could be wrong, but it’s my theory and I’m sticking to it until proven otherwise. Now is your chance to let me know what you think. Will we see the monster, or will JJ Abrams lead moviegoers through this entire film without ever seeing the villain?

More Monstrous Clues

There are some more clues popping up that support the title "Monstrous." A quick search shows that www.themonstrousmovie.com has been owned by Paramount since June 7, 2007. The site isn't live yet, but I'd be willing to bet that it will surface Thursday during, or after, Comic-Con.

Monstrous

As much as I hate speculating, it's really all we can do at this point. The machine that is 1-18-08/Cloverfield/Slusho/Unnamed JJ Abrams Project is just too amazing not to speculate. But, now we might have some physical proof of what the title is. And, all this 3 days before Comic-Con.

Unforum member "Onikage" posted a set of interesting pictures from his cell phone today. The poster appears to be a headless Statue of Liberty with the title "Monstrous." There's a release date, but that is very blurry. Speculation is that the date is (of course) 1-18-08.

From Unforum:
Hi all,

First time post here. I just wanted to let you know about something I saw at a warehouse sale called Frank & Son's here in Southern California. Basically they sell collectible stuff like cards, comics, toys, etc. It is like a mini convention hall every wed and saturday.

Anyway, I was at a large booth where they sell movie posters. One of the posters there had a snapshot of the statue of liberty overlooking the city of new york. The statue was missing it's head and at the top in large white letters it said "Monstrous". The lower right corner had in smaller white letters, 1-18-08.

Fake? I dunno but that is what I saw. I also snapped some cell phone pics and if possible i'll try to upload them.

If this was already mentioned before I'm so sorry as I know people love to jump all over others when they repost.

G4 Announces Comic-Con 2007 Live Coverage

G4 will be there to cover it all. Hopefully, they'll get some good footage of JJ Abrams and the Paramount team talking about 1-18-08. Photos, videos, plot points, or the monster reveal would all be nice. We'll have to wait and see.

Behind the Scenes Footage

Some amateur behind the scenes footage of the filming has leaked onto the net. I found this article at Slash Film. Looks like the guy who shot this wasn't too happy about having a film crew near his apartment.

Possible Relation???

The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms is a 1953 movie about a monster that attacks New York City. Don't know if it is reletad to 1-18-08 at all but it is interesting in a way because the monster attacks Coney Island where I believe parts of the movie are being shot. Maybe a remake???

Thanks to egroh08 from www.4815162342.com for the tip.

4th Photo Revealed

It looks like we have a new photo to obsess about. The official 1-18-08 page has been updated with a fourth photo. This one is very blurry and out of focus. Set 36 minutes after the most recent photo, there is a definite military presence (is the officer holding an M4?), yet there seems to be even more chaos and confusion. The smoke is gone, but this could just be an entirely new location. Even on foot, you can get pretty far in half an hour.

Comic-Con Update

Well, it's a slow news week apparently. But, that gives us more time to rest before next week's big announcement(s). Comic-Con is next week! By the looks of the schedule, Thursday, July 26 is when we find out the title of this friggin' movie.

1:30-3:30 Paramount Pictures— Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures, and Nickelodeon Movies present a bold new vision for the future of adventure. Be here for a one-of-a-kind presentation put together just for the fans at Comic-Con as you get a look at such highly anticipated films as Beowulf, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Stardust, Hot Rod, Iron Man, and the next installments of Indiana Jones and Star Trek, plus a few surprises. Appearing in person: JJ Abrams, Neil Gaiman, Roger Avary, and SNL's Andy Samberg. Hall H

Unfortunately, I live in Louisville, KY, so I'm a just a few miles away from San Diego. But, with the time difference, I will be off work when this panel gets started, so information shouldn't be lax.

Here's the Comic-Con Full Thursday Schedule. Also of note is a 5:00 p.m. panel on LOST Season 4.

Another 1-18-08 Article

The folks at Advertising Age have finally given us an article about Cloverfield. Honestly, it's about time.

Anyway, aside from the normal information, AdAge gives us a look at this movie from the advertising and marketing perspective, plus they throw in a bit more information about the trailer.

Who cut the "Cloverfield" trailer? Paramount isn't saying. Execs at and spokesmen for the studio did not return calls seeking comment. But a person at a postproduction house that works closely with Paramount on all its trailers told Ad Age that the trailer "came out of left field for all of us" and that the consensus was Mr. Abrams had cut the trailer himself.

The trailer-house insider was puzzled by the lack of clear branding on the untitled film. "We try and push the title of the movie [in a trailer], so people will associate the 'Wow!' experience with the movie. I don't know if this will backfire or not."

1-18-08 Features an Army Firefight. Who knew?!

Since nothing much is going on today, I thought I'd add this tidbit. Blogger Justin at JustinSpace.com has provided his readers with some new info about the filming of 1-18-08. Justin apparently lives across the street from Paramount Studios. He received a memo explaining some noises he may hear.

“…on Thursday July 12 and Friday, July 13 Paramount Pictures will be filming night scenes for their feature film, “Cloverfield,” on the Hennessy Street set on the Main Lot. The filming will simulate an army firefight – including gunfire (blanks) and explosions (powder flash). Any sound-related effects will be completed before 10:00 p.m.”

Well, there you have it.

JJ Abrams fans are having the Best Week Ever

VH1's show, Best Week Ever, featured clips from the 1-18-08 trailer during this week's broadcast. Check it out.

UPDATE: The video is back up so enjoy!! You can also search VH1's V-Spot for the full episode.

In other news...

The New York Post has a fairly detailed and well written article about the movie. Check it out. There are lots of clues and insider information.

The End is the Beginning

Reports are coming in from all over. Our favorite untitled movie will begin at the end!

Slashfilm reports: Ken Tarallo, FX Specialist, says about the film, "The film starts with a rescue crew cleaning up after the entire incident, and one of them finds a camera. They rewind the tape, press play… and the playback is the movie that unfolds."

...the whole movie will be from the perspective of video cameras. We’ve reported in the past that it would be shot using a handicam. Apparently that is not true. They are “using the state of the art DVD Panavision camera” and according to Tarallo, not shooting in New York. So it looks like the reports of Slusho Los Angeles film sets were correct after all, and The Hollywood Reporter was misinformed.

Be sure to check out the photos on the page. They are supposedly shots from the set. With this movie shrouded in so much secrecy and mystery, it's almost hard to believe we have real photos from production.

CanMag has a similar article about how the movie begins.

Bloop?

I found an interesting post over at We Were The Cool Kids. It talks about the "bloop" sound found on the Slusho Web site and its connection to this whole viral campaign and H. P. Lovecraft’s short story “The Call of Cthulhu.” Several people have speculated that 1-18-08 could be a Cthulhu movie. Perhaps soon we'll find out.

To sum up: A mysterious sound believed to be made by a creature larger than the largest-known animal on Earth was discovered by scientists in 1997 in the vicinity of H.P Lovecraft's R’yleh. The sound matches that made by the monster in the Cloverfield trailer. This is more evidence supporting the Cthulhu angle.

Please note the coordinates mentioned. Any LOST fans dare to guess where 47°9′S, 123°43′W leads you? Very interesting!

Channel 4 Article

Channel 4 has an article up about the movie and the hype. It's a good read.

I especially like this snippet.

The truth about 'Slusho', Ethan Haas, the name 'Cloverfield', the cast (which seems to consist of relative unknowns so far), the shoot and the budget (which the 'Hollywood Reporter' said was "believed... to be about $30 million") will come out eventually. In the meantime, whatever the facts, it's fascinating to observe this new relationship between Hollywood and online fandom, and how smart mystery-wrights like Abrams orchestrate proceedings.

The Beasts of the Sea

The Gossip Rag (interesting name) has some new info about Slusho's connection to 1-18-08.

From:
http://www.thegossiprag.com/movies/noriko-yoshida-and-slusho/

The hunt continues. Many people are asking questions about Noriko Yoshida since she is talked about extensively on the Slusho website. Additionally, the Slusho website reports that Noriko is survived by her son. This may not be all that important, but what is important is that Scramble Network reports that just yesterday a Matisse painting was posted on what is called Noriko Yoshida’s Web Page at Kobe University. The painting’s title can be translated as “The Beasts of the Sea.” This is interesting as well. It is also interesting that the Japanese URL has NY NY contained in the domain. JJ Abrams and the Paramount Cloverfield team are really throwing us for a loop!

Movie Title to be Released at San Diego Comic-Con

I found this on www.reallyscary.com

Cloverfield Project (aka 1-18-08) Title Being Released at San Diego Comic Con
Ken Tarallo, an fx specialist, is working on the JJ Abrams Cloverfield Project (now going by the moniker 1-18-08). Ken mentions on his forum that the official name will be announced at the San Diego Comic Con.

Well, there you have it. So, it looks like in two weeks we'll have an answer to that question. Maybe that will give us some insight as to what the hell this movie is about!

Monster Revealed?

I've been doing a bit of research, both for this movie and trying to figure out the ins and outs of Blogging. I came across this mashed-up trailer. It's a nice break from all the Godzilla, Voltron, Huge Lion, speculation and complicated html code.

I'm sure when JTS sees this, he'll laugh his ass off.

Update to the Official Site

the official site has been updated. http://www.1-18-08.com/ looks like a bunch of smoke or dust after an explosion. not to offend anyone but kinda reminds you of 9-11.....

Exit Mystery St

After reading the SlashFilm article again (linked previously), I've been doing some research about the Exit Mystery St sticker/sign/whatever. I've found that, just like with LOST fans, 1-18-08 fans are starting to get a little TOO good at finding "clues."

I have reason to believe that this sign is nothing more than a background prop with little to no meaning, other than perhaps a clue into the life of Rob, the trailer's apparent focus.

The Exit Mystery St sign originates from New Orleans. The New Orleans Jazz Fest 2007, to be exact. Another shot from the trailer showed a fraternity paddle with the letters AKM. Some minor research led me to Xavie University of Louisiana and the Dillard University. Both are in New Orleans.

Methinks our friend Rob may be from New Orleans, or perhaps a roommate? Time will tell.

ABZ 3293

http://www.abz3293.com/

Could this be another clue, or just another bogus site? Apparently, the owner of the site is looking for the driver of a car with that New York license plate. It's only relevant because the SUV that gets hit with Lady Liberty's head in the first trailer has the exact same license plate.

I doubt it's an official site, but we'll see. This movie definitely has the attention of the world right now.

UPDATE: As I thought, it's just another fake site. Much like the Ethan Haas duds.

Catching Up (Part 2)

Slashfilm.com has an interesting article about the trailer that links http://slusho.jp to Cloverfield. Take a look. Luckily, at the bottom there are some links to Related Stories. That may cover some stuff I haven't gotten to yet.

Catching Up

I realize I've got some catching up to do since I'm about two weeks behind on starting this post. This Blog is dedicated to the so-far untitled 1-18-08 trailer shot entirely with hand held camcorders where some mass chaos ensues. Brilliant stuff.

There is an official Web site. It's already been updated once. So far, there are only two pictures. I'm sure this will continue to change as we get closer and closer to January 18.

Official Site:http://www.1-18-08.com/

So far, I'm not really sure what we can accomplish with the Slusho site. More on that later.

Welcome to my Blog

Welcome to the Blog. This site is dedicated to the movie known (so far) as Cloverfield. It will be released on 1-18-08. Other than that, we really don't know much about the movie.

I'll be updating the site soon enough to add more helpful information for anyone looking for a clue or two. I know this won't be a definitive site, but I'll sure try.
