I’m done

It's time for a change. I'm officially launching into a full-blown job hunt. I've been putting the feelers out for the past few weeks, but now it has become abundantly clear to me that I need to move on and try something else. I've put in a lot of time and effort only to be continuously misinterpreted or altogether unnoticed. I'm not opposed to leaving New York, if that's what it takes. Don't get me wrong -- I love this city. But there are certain elements that I need to get away from before I lose my mind. I'm sick of being the overlooked guy. Sick of being pigeonholed as one thing, when if you would just give me a chance, I know I can be so much more.

You know how you can get totally absorbed with something, and because you are so focused on that one thing, you miss out on other opportunities? I now realize that's what has been happening here. Or maybe I've known it all along and have been living in denial, clinging to that empty hope that things were going to get better. That certain things were meant to happen. Well, whether those things were meant to happen or not, they didn't. Not for me, at least.

Sometimes, you need to give up.

Cloverfield NYC Subway Poster

The image isn't anything new, but the location sure is. Cloverfield advertising has gone underground. My friend Chris has e-mailed me with the above picture taken from the Spring Street subway station in SOHO Manhattan.

I wonder if Spring Street is the station Rob and his friends take to escape the monster? It's fairly close to Rob and HUD's apartment and where the SOL's head lands. I guess we'll see...

MovieWeb Exclusive: Cloverfield Commercial

Paramount Pictures have provided MovieWeb with an exclusive first look at the next Cloverfield TV commercial. The video contains a few never-before seen scenes from the upcoming film, and is a much better quality (and different) than the commercial previously seen.

Tagruato Whistleblower Memo #2

Dennis has received a new memo from "The Whistle Blower", which was sent by e-mail using the Tagruato e-mail address: 18kagashimad@tagruato.jp. Dennis had previously e-mailed them asking about the ParafFun recall.

The memo itself is written in Japanese, but another hand-written message reads:

Americans, No Oil Here! They must have known before they built! - The Whistle Blower

UPDATE: Kosmopol from Unfiction has provided a translation. The document is a financial statement for the third quarter of 2007, with a table of the profits from each drilling station. Conspicuously, missing from the list is the Chuai station.

Sci Fi Magazine Cloverfield Article

The February issue of Sci Fi Magazine has another interview with Bryan Burk, producer of Cloverfield. If you're not able to get your hands on a copy of the magazine just yet, Sci Fi Wire, the magazine's online counterpart, has created two smaller clips of the article. Check those out here and here.

"We've only had two internal screenings, and one was for a group of people who had not seen the script. All of their reactions, to quote them, was that it was one of the rare occasions where the movie lives up to the trailer. I think people are going to love it. It's like a nonstop ride. The experience of watching this movie is like nothing I've personally ever seen ... I hate using bad cliches, but it's an authentic, visceral thriller."

As January 18, 2008 draws ever closer, Paramount will surely make a push to get all the free publicity they can. Friday brought us four seperate interviews from Cloverfield director Matt Reeves. Earlier today, Sci Fi Wire interviewed producer Bryan Burk.

MTV and IESB interview Michael Stahl-David (he plays Rob) about Cloverfield. Be warned, there are some mild spoilers.

About Rob:

So, Rob is a 20-something guy who is not a very extraordinary guy. He kind of has amounted to about as much as people thought he would. But now he’s got this great offer for a job in Japan so he’s gonna leave his friends and this girl that he’s always kind of been in love with but has been too afraid to do anything about and go to Japan. And that’s what the movie is about, at the beginning. We’re seeing a going away party for him. When catastrophe strikes, things become clear kind of quickly what’s important to him. Then he spends the rest of this movie trying to get to this girl.

Who is in the film:

"[My character] is someone who's not a big risk-taker or somebody who's very spontaneous," Stahl-David revealed. "And then there's Hud, the man behind the camera [played by T.J. Miller], who's loud and funny but not the most tactful guy, definitely — he really cares about his friends. Then there's Lizzy Caplan [as Marlena], who randomly gets stuck with us — she's not in our close circle of friends ... she's the outsider in our midst. Then there's Jessica Lucas [as Lily], who is the caretaker of my brother Jason [Mike Vogel], who is wild and reckless. She's the only reason he keeps his sh-- together.
"Then there's Beth [Odette Yustman], [and] I've always felt like there's something there between us," he explained. "We've been friends for a long time, but whenever I'm single, she's been seeing somebody and vice versa. We've never really connected, until a few weeks before the tape begins to roll — but I'm leaving, so it was just going to end where it was."

Acting opposite the monster:

In certain scenes, if you could physicalize something, it would give the animators something to do. Give them something to play off of really strong. Normally in a scene, you’re thinking about what you give your scene partner to play off of, but in this there was this invisible scene partner that if you did some big motion that was really going to help them, you know, it might feel ridiculous for you, in the moment, to do it but it was really to help them.

The monster is scary looking:

We got to see renderings that they had on the computers and, in one case, a really amazing model. A wax model they had built that looked just terrifying. So we had somewhat of sense. We got to know the style. But they were good about that. Of letting us have some idea of what it was going to be.

Slusho! may be more than a drink:

"The concept of Slusho! is something that I'm not at liberty to discuss," he recited robotically, only half-kidding. "I think [my character] might've been better off if he found some Slusho! [during the attack], but that would've been too much like Popeye eating his can of spinach."

The end of the movie:

We did, however, learn that the monster is not named in the movie ("We took to calling it Clover ... when the movie comes out, people are gonna name it"); that Cloverfield contains Speed-like nonstop scenes as high-adrenaline as the clip ("There's a couple points where we can't run anymore and we have to sit with ourselves, but other than that, the movie is about you being with us, and us trying to survive"); and that a climactic scene takes place in the NYC subway system.
"The whole scene in the subway," Stahl-David said when asked for his favorite moment. "Once we go in there and get stuck and have to walk through those tunnels ... it's not a nice place to be ... I can't wait for the world to see that, and to hear their reactions."

Cloverfield Rated PG-13

The official Cloverfield site, cloverfieldmovie.com, has been updated with an MPAA Rating of PG-13 for "Violence, Terror and Disturbing Images."

So, what does this rating mean? The MPAA Web site explains:

A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.

Personally, I have a feeling this movie is going to be scary, and probably have a lot of violence. I mean, a giant monster attacks NYC. I’d say there probably will be no nudity, no drug use, and very little “strong language.”

Slusho Unrelated to Cloverfield?!

Peter Sciretta from Slashfilm has reported he's talked to four people who have seen early cuts of Cloverfield. According to his sources, Slusho! has very little to do with the actual plot of the movie. In fact, JJ never realized just how popular Slusho! would be.

All this Cloverfield viral marketing has got me wondering. I have now talked to four people who have seen an early cut of Cloverfield. I haven't heard one negative so far, although everyone is very reluctant to share any details about the film. But I have been able to confirm something that I have believed all along -

Slusho! has almost nothing to do with Cloverfield!

Yes, Paramount and Bad Robot are using Slusho! to promote Cloverfield. I'm not suggesting otherwise. Slusho! branded T-shirts were even handed out at the Paramount panel during Comic Con 2007 (where Cloverfield made a brief appearance).

What I'm here to tell you today is that Slusho! has very little to do with the plot of the movie, and only makes a brief appearance on the t-shirt of one of the characters. I’m being told that is pretty much the extent of it. So the question now becomes: How did a JJ Abrams inside joke become the focal point of the entire viral marketing campaign for a movie that has nothing to do with everyone’s favorite Japanese frozen beverage?

I’ve been told by numerous sources that Paramount, Bad Robot, and even JJ Abrams didn’t expect this much interest in their small January monster movie. Possibly afraid of a repeat of Snakes on a Plane, it appears that the studio doesn’t plan to up the marketing budget for the movie. So maybe Slusho! was JJ Abrams’ and Bad Robot’s way of advertising the movie on a low budget? Or...

Here is were the speculation begins...

Or maybe Slusho! is actually part of another JJ Abrams project entirely. Bad Robot has at least seven projects set up at Paramount, spanning the comedy, romantic comedy, horror and supernatural genres. Could Slusho! be connected to one of these projects? Could a teaser trailer be shown in front of Cloverfield?

One of my credible non studio sources has heard that “Slusho! is a project that JJ Abrams has been working on for years now...” But everyone else I’ve talked to seems to know nothing at all. So for now it is all just speculation. JJ Abrams is very good at keeping secrets, because he keeps them within the arms of his small production company. He’s big enough not to have to go through studio channels where the noise usually gets out.

Devin at CHUD.com seems to think everyone scrambling for clues in the Cloverfield viral marketing campaign is a big nerd. Well, duh. Proudly. This is news? My wife even makes fun of me. So what? Everyone needs a hobby.

Cloverfield Mobile Phone Advertisement Contest

E-Commerce Times and TelevisionPoint.com have reported Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot will use the mobile platform to promote Cloverfield and reward one lucky winner.

"Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot are both innovation leaders in their own right, so when we partnered on the upcoming film 'Cloverfield,' we wanted to find cutting-edge ways to market the film. We released an exclusive film clip along with a contest whereby the person with the most clip views will be the first one to see the movie before its release on Jan. 18. We're very excited to partner with MSN Mobile on this promotion because it extends our reach and connects us with our audience on an additional digital touch point." said Amy Powell, senior Vice-president, Interactive Marketing, Paramount Pictures.

Microsoft began to placing advertisements on its MSN Mobile page today, moving into the mobile phone advertising business. Jaguar (the car company) and Paramount Pictures will be the first brand advertisers to use the ad service, which will place banner-style ads alongside existing text advertisements on MSN Mobile pages, Microsoft said.

So, be on the lookout for more information about this promotion/contest.

Cool Stuff: Cloverfield Wrap Party Invitation

Slashfilm has found a photo of a cast and crew invite to the Cloverfield wrap party.

Rob was going to Japan, and a bunch of friends gathered to throw him a going away party. But that was just the beginning. We’ve all seen the trailer (you know, the one where the guy clearly saying “It’s Alive!” and not “It’s a Lion!” right before the statue of liberty’s head rolls down the street), but did you know that Rob had ANOTHER gong away party?

Found on eBay, is a photo of a cast and crew invite to the Cloverfield wrap party which happened under the guise of “The 2nd Attempt Rob & Beth Going Away Party”, which happened on Saturday August 18th. The invite’s headline reads: “Bon Voyage Rob… Again!”

On the bottom right hand side you will see the many logos the production went under, Cloverfield, Slusho!, Chocolate Outrage, Cheese and 1-18-08. A cool piece of Cloverfield behind the scenes memorabilia.

Update: After vigorously searching, I've found the eBay page for these items. These items sold for $34!! Hopefully we'll see some more popping up soon.

Cloverfield Terror Lasts 90 Minutes

Sources have reported to ShockTillYouDrop.com the running time of Cloverfield will be a mere 90 minutes.

A silly report? Perhaps. But there are those out there who do base their movie-going decisions based on running time. ("Wait, that movie's an hour and forty-five minutes? Screw that!") For theaters owners - the shorter the run time, the more screenings per day.

That said, when it comes to Matt Reeves' "destructo-vérité" Cloverfield, are we going to get an epic-length account of New York City's annihilation? Nada. Sources tell Shock, Reeves and company have cobbled together a lean 'n mean 90-minute tale.

Just enough time to bring the fam to the theater for a winter afternoon matinee and be out in time for an Outback Steakhouse dinner.

Cloverfield Myspace Pages Updated

Rally Show Cancelled

We were really looking forward to seeing you guys at the Tidowave rally next week but we had to cancel our set. There's been an accident within the band and we are currently recovering, both physically and emotionally. That's all the info we can give out at this time. Cloverfield Billboard Revealed

It looks like Cloverfield billboards are starting to appear. Mr Viper at Something Awful forums has taken some pictures of the billboard situated at (fittingly enough) Cloverfield Blvd. and Olympic Blvd. in Santa Monica, CA.

Update: I just talked to a buddy of mine in marketing/advertising. He's on the Paramount account in NYC and hadn't heard any buzz about the ads. He called his contacts in California and some people he knows in the NYC area. They confirmed the majority of billboards will be in LA because of the small advertising budget. But, we may see the billboards in other areas as Paramount is constantly advertising, and additional coverage may be given, per existing contracts.

If you've got a billboard in your area, we'd love to know. Pictures would be great as well.

Tagruato Hack Leads to TidoWave.com

UnForum member Eliss has used clues left from last week's two attacks on Tagruato's Web site to find T.I.D.O. Wave.

T.I.D.O. Wave is a "nonprofit, grassroots, environmental activist organization dedicated to saving our planet from the world's most nefarious corporations." It is run by a group called Les Guerriers de Mère-Terre (The Warriors of Mother Earth). The group was founded by notorious conservationist Les Bandit Vert (The Green Bandit).

Be sure to catch up on T.I.D.O history, read through the blog entries, and browse the Cruel-etin Board. There are several secrets to be found in this site, I'm sure. One of which is the story behind the mysterious death of Kazui Ichigawa.

Update: TIDO has now opened the comments for anyone. This means a lot of Out of Game (OOG) info is spreading. Does this mean TIDO is OOG? Either way, I think the blog is still useful, but I wouldn't put much stock in any of the comments.

Star Trek Teaser Attached to Cloverfield

Trekmovie.com and ScreenRant.com confirm the Star Trek XI Teaser Trailer will premiere in front of Cloverfield. The trailer should show up online (officially) a few days later at the usual locations (Apple Trailers, etc).

There is no confirmation as to why they picked Cloverfield. Chances are, it's to boost ticket sales from rabid Trek fans, and of course, the JJ Abrams connection probably doesn't hurt.

Death of Tagruato Biologist!

Many thanks to our friend in the field who passed the original article on to us. It’s translated below:

YOSHIDA MEDICAL RESEARCH MOURNS THE LOSS OF MARINE BIOLOGIST

Tagruato suffered a large loss yesterday when Kazui Ichigawa, 63, and his family were found dead early in the morning.

His body, along with the bodies of his wife, Rie Ichigawa, 55, daughter Norika, 36, and granddaughter Kyoko,10, was discovered in the Daisetsu-San National Park at a popular RV camping area. Early word from the police is that it was a gas explosion in their trailer.

In a statement released to the press, press consultant Aki Ito said, “We are shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of perhaps our finest Marine Biologist. Ichigawa was not only an employee, but also a friend. He died with honor.”

His tragic death comes mere days after he abruptly retired from YMR. When informed of that, Ito replied, “It is a shame and a tragedy- this is a man who always put his family first.”

A close friend and co-worker (who asked to remain anonymous) believes that Ichigawa uncovered a magnificent discovery before he retired. “Unfortunately, his computer and files, even ones he kept in his home safe, are nowhere to be found. Tagruato is currently conducting a search for them.”

Ichigawa is survived by his son-in-law, Toshiro, 39, who was away on business at the time of the accident.

Reports are coming in from several unforum members that have received more than random newspaper clippings with their Slusho! store orders. They are now being shipped with pieces of a Tagruato memo. Unfortunately, no one has an entire memo, and they're all in Japanese.

However, on the back of the memos, there's a message in English.

Dennis has pieced together the torn pages. And members of unforum have been up all night trying to translate the memo. Here's what they've come up with.

The Chuai Station is located nearest New York City. The site was supposed to open in September 2007, but the interactive map hasn't been updated in a while. Perhaps there are some problems at the station as indicated with this torn memo? One has to wonder if this has anything to do with Teddy and "The Cause."

Cloverfield Monster on 30 Rock?

Last night on 30 Rock episode "Cougars", Kenneth accidentally showed Jack and Tracy a drawing from his "Dream Journal." His comment after he noticed the mistake; "They've all come true so far!"

Could this be the Cloverfield monster? Probably not, but at this point, anything is possible. And I wouldn't put it past the execs at NBC. Hey, at least Kenneth's monster does have three claws on each hand...

Cloverfield Plot Summary Revealed

A few days ago, Crave Network Web sites received an official plot synopsis for Cloverfield. Today, the movie's official site, http://www.cloverfieldmovie.com/, was updated with the plot synopsis as well. It reads as follows.

Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives.

This comes as no big news. We know about Rob and his friends. We know there's a monster attack. We know it's filmed with handheld cameras. We know they are fighting for their lives.

The big question is, who are Rob's five friends? From the MySpace accounts we've already discovered, we know Rob has six close friends. Beth, HUD, Jamie, Jason (his brother), Lily, and Marlena.

In the trailers, we've definitely seen Jason(1) and Lily(2) and Marlena(3). Promotional photos show Beth(4) and HUD(5) are in the movie. And from a picture featured on 1-18-08.com, we've seen Rob with Jamie(6) and HUD.

That accounts for all six of Rob's friends, all who we assume would be at the party. So, is this a simple mathmatical mistake on Paramount's part, or is it something bigger?

Also of note: During the credits for second trailer, only six actors are mentioned. The actress that plays Jamie is not one of them. However, Jamie has been featured in a series of four video blogs, which seem an integral part of the plot leading up to the movie.

Tagruato Web Site "Hacked" Again!

Maybe we missed something the first time? Maybe we saw the right clues but interpreted them incorrectly?

The trailer for the mysterious monster movie made its debut back in July and sparked huge buzz. Since then, the buzz has quieted a bit, but an ardent group of movie buffs are still scouring the Web for the scoop on the flick.
This week we witnessed a 371% increase in searches on "cloverfield monster revealed" after a new trailer offered a glimpse of the horror to come. Related queries on "cloverfield monster" and "cloverfield trailer" have also smashed through the Search box. Diabolical director J.J. Abrams, the mastermind of all this hype, has jumped 116% in searches over the past week.
The Web-based viral marketing component has been key in keeping the movie's buzz alive. Searches on "cloverfield clues" jumped 112% as sneaky sleuths attempted to unravel a few of the film's mysteries. One question as of late—does the movie's classified colossus have anything to do with the legendary Cthulhu? Searches on the horrific creation of author H.P. Lovecraft soared 64% this week as monstrous theories circulated around the Web.
We can't tell if Cthulhu is involved in the Cloverfield saga, but the latest cinematic clue to make a splash in Search is "slusho." In a move surely to shake up the world of physics, Bold Futura has recruited one hundred of the top physics majors graduating from universities around the world. Most highly sought after was Johan Hedberg from Sweden. His internationally-acclaimed thesis on the intricate ecosystems of deep sea crevices landed him immediate tenure at his university but he turned it down for the opportunity to work for Bold Futura. “They offered me free reign to do whatever I want as long as the board approves and oversees it, “said Hedberg at Futura’s November press conference, “Plus I’ll have comfort and security for a long, long time.”

TAGRUATO LAUNCHES FIRST SATELLITE

Through its Bold Futura subsidiary, Tagruato successfully launched its first geostationary satellite “Hatsui” yesterday afternoon. At first, the launch was thought to be rescheduled because of poor weather conditions. Yesterday morning brought heavy rain and lightning strikes near the launch pad. Despite this adversity, however, the abort command was overruled by CEO Ganu Yoshida. After a five minute delay, the launch went off without any disasters.

Mission Chief Kenji Matsui claimed, “At first we thought the lightning might strike the satellite. It could cause a fire to catch within the electrical systems. It would have been seven years of hard work and sleepless night wasted.”

When asked why he overruled the abort command, Yoshida said, “Because here at Tagruato, we don’t let lightning stand in the way of achieving our goals. In this case that goal was reaching for the stars.”

Yoshida could not be more specific as to what “reaching for the stars” entails, but assured us, “It will be big.”

Slusho! Smilers! Visit Animal Control Center

The Tagruato Headlines have been updated again. In a story posted on November 27, the Slusho! Smilers! visited a remote animal control center in Takayama.

Tagruato’s troupe of Slusho! Smilers! struck again last Friday, this time at a remote animal control center in Takayama. Bearing armfuls of Slusho! happy drinks for all the lower wage workers, the girls also organized a Slusho! drinking contest for two dozen of the center’s caged puppies and kittens.

“Kittens love Slusho! It reminds them of mother’s milk!” grinned Smiler! Mayu.

The workers whooped and cheered as the animals swam and drank their way through a 40-liter trough of Blueberry Zoom. After twenty minutes, Pickle, a spotted Labrador pup, was still happily lapping Slusho! “This one will come home to Ganu!” said acrobatic Smiler! Yuuka as she clutched the lucky puppy, “He just couldn’t get enough Zoom!” With the center in Takayama, the girls completed their nationwide tour of Japan’s animal shelters. While all the shelters received a generous donation from the Tagruato Cares! foundation, the centers with the most Slusho!-friendly animals were purchased and welcomed into the Tagruato family. These centers will undergo a full renovation in the next three years, making way for modern facilities with up-to-date research, technology, and rehabilitation equipment.

Slusho! Makes Another Heroes Appearance

Last week we reported a Slusho! sighting on the set of NBC's Heroes, and even a quick teaser shot of a Slusho! cup in the episode.

Slusho! got a little more screen time this week on Heroes. It appears Elle, played by actress Kristen Bell, really enjoys the drink. This week, on the episode titled "Truth & Consequences," instead of just the side of the cup, viewers could see a full-frontal view of Slusho!

Looks like Claire wasn't happy that Elle dropped her Slusho!

Now the real question is, how does this all tie in? Or does it? Is it just some ploy to boost ratings? Or is there some strange connection? A new Prime-Time spinoff?

Tagruato Web Site Restored, Kind Of...

Update: Tagruato is back up and it appears to be exactly as it was pre-hack. I guess it didn't take long for the IT department to get it up and running again. Interestingly enough, there's no mention of the ParafFUN! recall.

Looking back at the pre-hacked Tagruato Web site (thanks again to Dennis, for hosting the mirror), you'll notice ParafFUN! wax was used for lots of things.

It appears someone has hijacked the Tagruato site. The site is now simply an image of CEO Ganu Yoshida with devil horns and some random sea creatures. Also of note is the destroyed city in the background. The site's new title is "TAGRUATO IS DESTROYING OUR OCEANS."

While this appears to be a hack of the Web site, this is most likely a part of the viral marketing scheme. This could be very much like the hack on the Hanso Foundation by Rachel Blake in the LOST ARG. Could this be the work of Teddy and "The Cause"?

UPDATE: Dennis appears to have found some clues within the picture itself. The wave and sea animals all have roman numerals hidden on them.

In a bit of a break from all the trailer news, I now bring you the cast of NBC's Heroes enjoying everyone's favorite frozen beverage, Slusho! Sadly, Zachary Quinto was not present. He was probably out filming that OTHER JJ Abrams film.

Monster (Almost) Revealed?

No, we're not talking about the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. We posted that back in July. It's amazing to see that even considered as new this late in the game.

We're talking about actual shots of the monster in the second trailer!!

The first glimpse we (might) see is on the new trailer at 47 seconds. (Thanks to Byran McMahon for providing the preliminary photos.) I've gotten a couple e-mails about this. It's hard to make out, but my first reaction is that this is simply bombs and a helicopter exploding, and the resulting smoke rising. Make your own assumptions based on these photos and by watching the trailer yourself.

The next reveal--which seems more plausible--is at 1:28 during the second trailer. (Thanks to Andrew Sarcona for being the first to e-mail be about this.) This is during the military attack scene. I think there are definitely some claws or tentacles or something destroying a building. Up top it could even be the monster's face. It's too early to tell.

Either way, take a look at each of the photos, and see how each one progressively becomes more in focus. Check it out on the trailer. I think you'll be convinced.

All analysis is preliminary, but we'd love to read your reactions to these shots. Please, use the comment section or send an e-mail.

Update: Slashfilm has posted a slow-motion video of this second scene. I think this is definitely the monster. Check it out.

Based on screenshots from the trailer and speculation of the relationship between Slusho! and this giant monster, this next clip taken from the trailer may explain more about what's going on. This appears to be an infected Marlena being escorted by two people in biosuits. Has she been drinking Slusho!? Did she get bitten or stung by this monster? She suddenly expands, and if you listen closely in the trailer, you'll hear a ripping or a splash.

Blackbookmag.com has an interview with Cloverfield cast member Lizzy Caplan (Marlena Diamond aka LenaDia). Since not all the questions revolve around Cloverfield, I'll highlight the ones that do. One thing to note, this article was posted yesterday, but seems like the interview took place several weeks ago.

BB: What can you tell me about Cloverfield? Is that even the name of the movie?

LC: I can’t even tell you that. It’s so weird, and I’m fully aware of how obnoxious it is.

BB: Have you seen it yet?

LC: No. I saw the newest trailer, though, which should be coming out in a few weeks. I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised, because this is a much bigger trailer [than the existing teaser], with more explosions and whatnot. It’s either going to be really good, or really disappointing. I don’t think that there’s much chance of gray area.

BB: What drew you to the character in the first place?

LC: Well, we weren’t exactly clear about the characters we were playing when we signed on. The producers sat us down and we auditioned with scenes that aren’t in the movie. Some were from “Alias” and some had been written specifically for the audition. And they were all very misleading.

BB: So, in casting, you read from Jennifer Garner’s lines?

LC: I’ve never really watched “Alias,” but I think they were Jennifer Garner’s lines. I had to plunge a syringe into some guy’s chest, and we were in France, and I didn’t have any idea what was going on.

BB: What convinced you to take the part?

LC: I’m a fan of “Lost.” That was it. During the first few weeks, it was like, “Oh god, this is what we’re doing? I had no idea. I’ll never sign on to another film again not knowing full well what it is.” But honestly, if Woody Allen or Wes Anderson called me today, and said, “Hey you want to do something? You don’t get to read the script,” I’d be like, “Yes, yes, yes!”

BB: How did J.J. Abrams ensure that the story wasn’t leaked? Did you get to take the script home with you?

LC: They’re actually coming by to pick it up today. We had to swap out every new set of pages with the old pages. They’re bright red, the scripts, and watermarked with our names. So, nobody wanted to be the one to accidentally leak it. They’re pretty hardcore about all of that. I don’t know how they’ve managed to keep it so secretive, though, because people obviously want to know more. And nobody knows anything. The speculation is very inaccurate.

BB: What are some of the more ridiculous speculations?

LC: There’s all this YouTube stuff about analyzing the trailer. People are seeing things that aren’t there and making up stuff that isn’t true. There’s this one still of me and Jessica Lucas, who’s another actress in the film, and people thought there was some crazy lion behind us. But people are wrong.

BB: Have the paparazzi been diligent about trying to get on set?

LC: There have been a few instances. The movie has gone though a bunch of different, strange names so that people don’t catch on. At one point, the title was Chocolate Outrage. But it’s interesting because nobody in the movie is famous. The movie is the celebrity. So it was almost like we were existing in the belly of Julia Roberts, where nobody cares about us. They were just taking pictures of this person that we were living inside.

BB: How has this project been different from, say, your experience with Mean Girls?

LC: The physically demanding elements were definitely different, and it’s shot in a very specific way. There’s no turning around, no close-ups, and no coverage. Also, because there were no recognizable names in it, the movie looks like it cost 150 million dollars even though it doesn’t. It was done really cheaply. People trying to make large-scale movies are going to be forced to do them for a lot less money after this comes out.

BB: Have you revealed any of the secrets to your friends or family?

LC: I’m a big fan of keeping secrets. I didn’t tell my agent. I didn’t tell my manager. I haven’t told anybody.

BB: Are you consciously trying to get away from the outsider roles that you often play?

LC: My character in this movie is kind of sarcastic, and she’s not great friends with people, so there are still outsider parts to it.

Again, the significance of this video is lost on me. I'm sure there are several subtle clues about...something. For instance, Jamie receives a gift from Teddy, but she can't open it until December 9. Is this how long Cloverfield fans have to wait for more solid information? Jamie also mentions an answer to one of Teddy's questions, which is "SIX times." Whatever that means. Oh, and she appears to be drinking cranberry juice (possibly with some vodka). I wonder how that bladder infection is treating her?

There is a lot of information on the Tagruato Web site to decipher and investigate. But, it seems the most important aspect is that this is a corporation with "fourteen drilling rigs strategically positioned around the globe, each a billion dollar marvel of modern engineering. One, the Chuai Station, is opening in September 2007 off the east coast of North America."

According to an interactive map on the site, it's not too far from the coast of New York. I suspect this may be the cause of monster attack. Deep sea drilling might awaken the monster, and the nearest land mass to that station is NYC.

There's also a lot of chatter on the site about cancer research using deep sea ingredients. The Slusho Web site also claims to include secret deep sea ingredients. And a snippet on the Tagruato site claims the following.

Tagruato's crew of Slusho! Smilers! arrived at the Ibaraki Nursing Home in Mito yesterday with a special surprise for the feeble elders on Floor 3 - Slusho! brand happy drink! The lovely ladies handed out seven drinks to each senior in any flavor they could imagine.

FINALLY!

There's a new picture on 1-18-08.com. The picture definitely looks like it's been captured from a video, and unlike all the other pictures, there's no date listed on the bottom. This is the sixth picture on the site.

The picture depicts a chef holding some creation. On the flip side of the picture, there appears to be a recipe (written in Japanese?).

The recipe has been translated by Hinoai from Unfiction:

Here it is: (by the way, I don't think that it was written by a native speaker, because there are some odd syntax uses. He uses some very formal japanese mixed in with very informal.)

Everybody, thank you for viewing! I'll introduce this week's delicious recipe. Please make sure to keep this one cold!

*Skinless chicken breast - 2, cut in halves
*Soumen (a kind of japanese noodle) - 10 oz.
*Watercress - 1/2 cup cut into small strips
*Turnip - 1/2 cup, thinly sliced
*Shiitake (japanese mushrooms) - 1/2 cup
*Chicken stock - 1/3 cup
*Sake (japanese rice wine) - 2 tbsp.
*Sugar - 1/2 tsp.
*Ocean-bottom crab - one

In a small saucepan, stir together 1/3 cup water, chicken stock, sake, and sugar. Chill it until it becomes cold. Grill the chicken breast on both sides for about 8 minutes, and then chill. Boil the noodles for about 3 minutes, and then run under cold water until chilled. Mix the watercress, turnips, and mushrooms into the soumen. Slice the chicken thinly and arrange on top of the soumen mix. Just before you serve, put the crab in the sauce and pour over the noodles generously.

As we previously reported, there was speculation that the name of this film would be "Monstrous." Since then, JJ Abrams debunked that idea at Comic-Con, and we are left with more questions. Now, there are several reports that our beloved movie will be called "Wreck."

Honestly, I think we should just call the movie 1-18-08. Historically, dates of major catastrophies have held much more meaning than some nickname or slogan. Think 9/11. If the movie is called "Wreck," then so be it. But right now, I wouldn't put much stock in the idea.

Since we don't know much about the film other than the sound of monster and the teaser trailer, it's time to imagine what it could be.

To enter your chance to win, you will write up 1 page version of how you think the story will flow from beginning to end along with a sketch of the monster. Now I know we are not all good in sketching like myself but do have an imagination to come up with ideas and stories.

1-18-08 Trailer Audio Analysis

Dennis at Cloverfield Clues has posted an analysis of the audio from the 1-18-08/Cloverfield trailer. He also has separated the 5.1 surround sound audio, and posted MP3s.

After listening to the MP3s this morning, there's nothing really out of the ordinary to note. There are a few small snippets of dialogue that were highlighted that you couldn't hear in the final mix of the trailer.

1-18-08 Roaring Back to Life

The official 1-18-08 Web site is back up, and now with more ROAR! If you wait six minutes (that's right, folks...SIX minutes), you'll be able to hear the roar.

Unfiction has posted an MP3 of the sound if you can't wait that long. Here's the thread where they are currently trying to analyze the sound file. Good luck guys, this is well beyond my technical expertise.

It might have just been my computer acting strange, but the first time I heard the roar on 1-18-08, it sounded muffled. Afterwards, there were sounds like air bubbles under water and swimming. Now, listening to the site a couple more times and listening to the MP3, there are no more air bubbles.

The 1-18-08 Web site has been removed. It now redirects to the Paramount home page at http://www.paramount.com/.

The full functionality of the original 1-18-08 site can still be found at http://www.1-18-08.com/photos_8.swf.

Hopefully this is a temporary change while Paramount works on putting up a more revealing official Web site for the movie.

UPDATE: It's back! I'm sure someone will analyze the site and find one or two things different, but so far the functionality is exactly the same as before. At first glance, everything seems normal. Except, there hasn't been an updated picture in nearly a month.

Still Confusion on 1-18-08 Monster Details

There's still a lot of confusion about the details of the monster(s) in Cloverfield/1-18-08. First there were some smaller monsters, then there weren't.

Now Dark Horizons has some details about the movie that were apparently confirmed by "two agency sources." Can it even be called a spoiler? I'm going to take all this information with a grain of salt. And until there is absolute proof, I'm probably not going to report on this topic again. There's just too much speculation, and even after we have a dozen "agency sources," the details are still not fully understood.

Slusho Happy Talk Updated

The Slusho Happy Talk page has been updated.

It appears all the phrases have been updated with new ones. According to Dennis, one interesting note in the code is that the Jellyfish has been renamed to Squid. I'm not sure of the significance there.

I tend to agree with other bloggers that these phrases are user-submitted, so I wouldn't put too much stock in their meaning. However, I find it interesting the repeated mention of being a whale and Bloop.

Cloverfield Monster Information | 1-18-08

Johnny_Butane at Dread Central has posted some exclusive information concerning the monster(s) in the upcoming 1-18-08/Cloverfield movie. He apparently has a reliable source that's "in the know." I guess we'll have to wait and see just how knowledgeable this guy is.

Perhaps you've heard some of the rampant speculation regarding a certain JJ Abrams-produced film currently known only as Cloverfield or 1-18-08 that's taken the World Wide Web by storm ever since its trailer premiered before The Transformers? I've seen everything online from it being a new Godzilla movie to being about a giant jellyfish created from soft drink sludge to a live action Voltron flick to it being a big screen version of the video game Rampage and so on...

Someone I know to be "in the know" was willing to throw me a bone with some small but interesting tidbits about the mysterious monster movie under the condition of absolute anonymity. With that in mind, let's just call this particular person "Mr. Slusho". Let me preface this by saying I have no way of confirming any of this info, though I've no reason to believe "Mr. Slusho" would feed me false information on purpose.

Anyway, here's what I've been told.

It's not Godzilla or Voltron (duh) or even Cthulu; anyone expecting there to be some sort of elaborately detailed backstory may be in for a disappointment. Expect an old-fashioned monster movie retold in a very modern Blair Witch sort of way - but with a twist. You see...

UPDATE: Thank goodness it's not true! For those that didn't want to be spoiled, worry not. You can now read the article by Dread Central. According to Slashfilm (thanks for the heads-up, Dennis), "Mr. Slusho" was wrong and there will be no small raptor-like creatures ravaging New York City. Although I figured JJ Abrams and company could pull it off, it felt too much like the latest Godzilla flop.

Who is Jessica Lucas?

The Hollywood Reporter mentions actress Jessica Lucas as starring in JJ Abrams' upcoming 1-18-08/Cloverfield movie. But who is she, and what character does she play? My guess would be Lily, girlfriend of Jason Hawkins. Jessica has been in "The Covenant," "She's the Man" and the ABC series "Life as We Know It." She also will play Veronica Lake, aka Ronnie, on the CBS hit, "CSI."

Where Are the 1-18-08 Updates?

This whole 1-18-08 campaign has been pretty quiet for the past week. The biggest news was that it's NOT Voltron, which everyone already knew. The official site hasn't been updated in 13 days, a rumored trailer didn't show at the beginning of Stardust (I didn't think it would), and no more set photos or reports have surfaced (probably because principal photog has ended in NY). The MySpace profiles and blogs have been updated, but I highly doubt they're anything more than a campaign to get the audience invested in these characters are "real" people.

Even with the lack of official news or updates, I still find that I check my e-mail alerts several times a day to see if anything new has popped up. I check the official site at least twice a day for updates. I sometimes do a Google search just to see how high or low this site is ranked for certain phrases.

I'm curious how everyone else feels at this point. This was a huge hype-machine in early July, and now just over a month later there's no news. Are you still invested in this movie? Have you lost interest? And what drew you to the movie in the first place? I think for me it was JJ Abrams' association, and the lack of a title didn't hurt either.

Slusho Orders Packed with Japanese-Language Newspapers

I wanted to wait until I confirmed a few things before I posted this, but now that I have my evidence, here goes. I’ve noticed a few people around the Web are receiving their orders from the Slusho Store (mine was shipped yesterday from Columbia, SC). Several people are claiming their shirts and hats are being shipped with Japanese newspapers. Jordan and Dennis, fellow 1-18-08 Bloggers, have both posted about their mysterious papers. I recruited my Best Man (he's had a few Japanese classes) to help me translate some of the pages that have been posted online. Here’s what he had to say in an e-mail.

Well, I don't know nearly enough of the 2,000 Kanji required to read a Japanese newspaper, but from what I can tell, it checks out as an actual paper. The date lines up as a paper that would be pulled to be used as packing material, and the stories seem pretty run-of-the-mill. I checked out the Japan Airlines story, and it's a valid story so I assume the rest are too. Here's a link to an entry on another site about the JAL Happiness thing:

So, it appears that this is not really a part of the marketing strategy, other than to tie in Japanese newspapers with the supposed Japanese product, Slusho. Surely, JJ and his team would realize how rabid his fans are, and that we'd figure out the source of these papers. So, a fake Japanese company sends shipments of goods from South Carolina packed in a Hawaiian Japanese-language newspaper...

Why? What's the significance? I don't know. The mind plays tricks on you. You play tricks back! It's like you're unraveling a big cable-knit sweater that someone keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting...

Cloverfield NOT Voltron, Variety Confirms

Variety has confirmed that a Voltron movie is being made, but not by Paramount and not by JJ Abrams. 20th Century Fox-based production company New Regency has partnered with the Mark Gordon Company to adapt "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" into a possible franchise.

Gordon has been developing the pic, based on the popular 1980s Japanese animated TV series, comicbooks and toy line, with Justin Marks penning the script.

Should the deal close, project would be one of the company's more high-profile efforts since Robert Harper took over as chairman-CEO of Regency Filmed Entertainment earlier this year.

Interest in the property hit a high after "Transformers" turned into a box office juggernaut, raking in nearly $300 million to date.

New Regency, which hasn't had a major hit since "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in 2005, sparked to the idea of a potential franchise.

Company's upcoming pics include "Alvin and the Chipmunks," the Doug Liman-directed "Jumper," the Alexandre Aja-helmed "Mirrors" and the Eddie Murphy starrer "Starship Dave."

Marks' take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico. Five ragtag survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders.

Gordon will produce with Lawrence Inglee and Jordan Wynn, who are shepherding the project at the Gordon Co., which has Roland Emmerich's "10,000 B.C." bowing next from Warner Bros. Mark Costa and Ford Oelman are exec producers.

"Voltron" pic has been in the works for nearly three years, with Jim Young's Animus Films funding its development.

Marks has become a go-to guy in Hollywood for comicbook, videogame and toy-based adaptations.

He is adapting "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" for Joel Silver at Warner Bros., as well as the Green Arrow pic "Supermax," also at the studio. Marks also has "Street Fighter" in the works at Hyde Park and Fox.

I'm not sure if it was the mass destruction, the misheard line, "It's a lion, it's huge!" or just a fanboy's fantasy that first created all the Voltron hype surrounding 1-18-08/Cloverfield/Whatever. But, we now have definite confirmation that this movie is not Voltron. In fact, for now, I'm going to stick to my previous theory about this movie's monster(s).

Paramount Lawyers Confirm Cloverfield Call-Sheet as Real

As we reported earlier, someone from New York Magazine was handed a call sheet detailing a scene from the upcoming 1-18-08 movie. It appears now that Paramount Pictures has confirmed the call sheet was real by taking action against a number of Web sites that displayed the call sheet.

Slashfilm has posted an article detailing a letter that was sent to their Web site from Paramount lawyers. The letter itself doesn't reveal much, but if you'd rather stay away from possible spoilers, don't read the full article at Slashfilm.

Cloverfield Principal Photography Wraps?

New York Magazine reports that principal photography has wrapped on JJ Abrams' secret Cloverfield Project.

We knew that J.J. Abrams's top-secret monster movie Cloverfield (a.k.a. Overnight, a.k.a. Monstrous, a.k.a. 1-18-08, etc.) was shooting in Manhattan this week under the fake name Cheese. So, in an unprecedented move, one of Vulture's editors actually left his computer and went outside. While we were near the film's set on the southwest corner of Central Park, a random crew member handed us something interesting: a call sheet for "day 33 of 33" of shooting that appears to give away Cloverfield's ending — and alternate ending! Major spoilers ahead, obviously.

JJ Abrams Producing More Untitled Movies

As reported in Variety, JJ Abrams is producing yet another untitled thriller. It appears even fewer details are known about this film. Our fan favorite, Cloverfield, and this newly announced untitled movie are both part of a seven (at least) movie deal Abrams and Bad Robot have with Paramount Pictures.

Paramount Pictures has acquired a pitch for an untitled supernatural thriller that will be written and directed by Josh Marston and produced by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot.

Project was pitched to Abrams by Marston. The filmmaker, who made a splash with "Maria Full of Grace," has also been developing an adaptation of the Jonathan Lethem novel "Fortress of Solitude."

Details on the pitch were being kept under wraps, as is Abrams' usual m.o. Still, only a year into a five-year pact with Paramount, Bad Robot has quietly set up at least seven projects, covering the comedy, romantic comedy, horror and supernatural genres. It's expected that Bad Robot will generate at least two projects a year for the studio, but Abrams' shop is keeping tight-lipped about all of them.

Abrams unveiled the tentatively titled "Cloverfield" with a teaser trailer on prints of "Transformers." The modestly budgeted disaster pic that will open Jan. 18is directed by Matt Reeves and written by Drew Goddard, based on an idea by Abrams.

Abrams will begin directing "Star Trek" on Nov. 5, scripted and exec produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Pic's produced by "Lost" exec producers Bryan Burk and Damon Lindelof, and Stratton Leopold, who worked with Abrams on "Mission: Impossible III." "Star Trek" opens Christmas Day 2008.

Micah at CHUD.com (beware of pop-up ads) has chimed in on what he thinks about this new development.

I guess this is Abrams’ signature much as the Shocking! Final! Twist! was M. Night Shyamalan’s for a time. And I think it’ll get old just as fast. I understand that with a hungry internet media presence out there, it’s very difficult to preserve the mystery around any given film. And who can blame J.J. for wanting to generate some buzz with a low-budget monster flick with no stars? I don’t begrudge him that at all. But it just seems silly to ascribe that sort of intrigue to everything you’re involved with, regardless of genre. What once seemed unique and thrilling can become an annoying gimmick in the click of a mouse, and the question of whether this will hurt or help these lower-scale films has yet to be answered. We’ll see in January.

Cloverfield – A Viral Marketer’s Look

New York Magazine’s Conner Kilpatrick interviewed Ian Schafer, CEO of marketing firm Deep Focus, to find out what he thinks about JJ Abram’s latest viral campaign.

"In my opinion, this Slusho thing is not that integral to the plot. People are throwing red herrings out there." A professional herring slinger himself, Schafer weighed in on some of the more popular Cloverfield theories making the rounds.

The Four Horsemen Theory: A Hello Kitty–esque horse appears on the Slusho Website and more than a few fanboys have spotted a horselike creature in the trailer. "I think it's possible," Schafer says. "I remember hearing a while ago that this is an end-of-the-world kind of thing, where something was sent from faraway to basically have Armageddon. Maybe Slusho is the first of four Websites with a horse on it? Maybe that's a clue. The four horsemen ride in, and it rains fire and brimstone and all that kind of stuff."

The Sea Monster Theory: The Slusho Website contains a cryptic bit of company history involving a girl who, because she drinks so much of the beverage, is called the "Smallest Whale." The roar in the trailer even sounds something like a whale song. "One of the [theories] is that [the monster is a] giant amphibian. A gigantic animal woken from its slumber under the sea. Some kind of alien that was planted here," Schafer says.

The Global Warming Theory: The Slusho Website says the drink's secret ingredient comes from deep within the ocean and must be kept freezing. Take a look at the trailer and you'll see that day's temperature in the newscast is 63 degrees — pretty hot for a New York January. Are we looking too close? Maybe not. "People are being rewarded for paying attention," speculates Schafer.

The It's-Just-a-Monster-Movie Theory: "With Cloverfield," Schafer says, "I would imagine that we're probably overestimating the amount of thought that goes into this."

I tend to agree with Mr. Schafer about Slusho and also with the “It’s just a Monster Movie theory. What do you guys think? Please leave your comments.

1-18-08 Central Park Set Photos

Slashfilm has a wonderful article with a couple reports from the set of Cloverfield/1-18-08, which shot on Monday in Central Park.

(Minor Spoiler Warning)

According to nooneimportant77, the first sequence involved (minor spoiler warning) a very bloody Rob and an unidentified girl (presumably Lily, played by actress Jessica Lucas) huddled under an over pass in Central Park. They exchange some lines, before Rob starts saying “look at me look at me”. Cue dust and bricks which fall on them while they scream. Then the production crew hoisted a big black tarp over one side of the over pass, which our source thinks was used to simulate more rubble falling.

Sounds like our friends from the trailer may play a bigger part than some people have speculated. And after watching some of the video, my thought is that the black tarp was used to block out the light. It's possible that the tarp could be used to simulate the monster(s) walking by. I'm sure time will tell.

Another interesting tidbit is that they were shooting with professional film or HD cameras, and not a consumer/prosumer grade camera.

Fake 1-18-08 Cloverfield Sites Debunked

It's now official. The ABZ3293 site and any and all Ethan Haas sites have been completely debunked. Many fans already know these sites are fake, but now we can finally show proof to the non-believers that these sites are not associated with Cloverfield/1-18-08/Monstrous/Overnight/JJ Abrams Marketing Extravaganza.

The ABZ 3293 site has posted a formal apology to fans for the misleading Web site. However, I don't really know how misleading it was. The site itself was never very professional-looking, and never offered many clues to anything. The Ethan Haas was Right site now leads to the official game site for Alpha Omega.

So, there you have it.

However, I think the first is pretty cool but the second one....to me, if this is the monster, its giving away too much in to little time that we have been teased by JJ Abrams. Not to mention the scale of the monster. It is obviously towering over the city. If the monster were to come in contact with the Statue Of Liberty there would be nothing left. Each poster however has a message that you can relate to each one. Enjoy!

CNBC "Overnight" Coverage

Now, Melissa Francis from the same show has interviewed Peter Sciretta from Slashfilm. Speculation says the title of this mysterious movie might be "Overnight."

Set Report

A few days ago I was picking up my sister from work and noticed movie trucks and army vehicles starting to fill the parking lot up at the Santa Anita Shopping Mall. I didn't think much of it because the mall is right next to the Santa Anita Race track and they always have some whacked out stuff going on over there so it wasn't that strange. But the next night, I saw that they started moving stuff in and out of the empty Robinsons/May building.
...
I walked right into the building without anyone stopping me. I saw that they were using the actual abandoned cosmetic counters and the other stuff that just seemed to be lying around for the set. They had a bunch of computer and gurney's around. It can be described as a triage center/command center.

The next night, I brought my video camera just in case something cool happened but at this point I didn't know what they were filming. My sisters boyfriend is a guard in the mall so he seemed to know a lot more than he was letting on. But after I told him I'd tell my sister some incriminating stuff on him, he started talking. Turns out that they are filming that J.J. Abrams Cloverfield movie and that the code name Chocolate is being used for the movie.

There were also a guys in Blue Bio-suits walking around who were working on something that I couldn't really describe. I'm speculating here but it looks like they might have a small piece of the monster or maybe some kind of infected human. There was a lot of attention on them so I just kept my distance.

I think the most interesting tidbit that I overheard was them referring to a robot. I know that J.J.'s company is called Bad Robot but now, I'm just guessing, what if the Monster isn't a monster, but a robot that has turned bad? That's a stretch but maybe J.J. wants to come full circle on the Bad Robot name. Has he ever said where the Bad Robot name came from? I don't think I've ever heard. I'm speculating on this because I did overhear another conversation later on regarding monsters. Monsters in the plural.

The folks at IESB.net are flaunting some new spy footage from the 1-18-08 filming. They have a video posted, but it appears the majority of the footage, and a set report, will be released tomorrow (August 1, 2007) or later this week.

So without further ado, we present you the IESB Comic Con exclusive sneak peek of the Cloverfield/1-18-08/Monstrous (which JJ denied was the official name) spy footage.

OVERNIGHT: Possible Title?

"Overnight" is now the subject at hand. Could this possibly be the title of our movie? Thanks to malemunyon from unfiction for this lead.

Sorry if this has been posted already; a quick search didn't yield anything. I recently stumbled upon trademark #77232885, "Overnight." It was registered to Group One Productions, LLC, and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer on July 18, 2007, and described as "motion picture, television and music production and distribution services." The Attorney of Record for the trademark is Lori N. Boatright. She is also the Attorney of Record for "SLUSHO!," "SLUSHO! YOU CAN'T DRINK JUST SIX," and "BAD ROBOT", trademarks 77229623, 77229614, and 76340985, respectively. I googled for "GROUP ONE PRODUCTIONS, LLC," yielding nothing. The LLC, however, is registered in the State of Delaware, formed on 11-08-2006, with its registered agent being ERESIDENTAGENT, INC (search). It's just a resident agent service. Considering there's no real information on the company, I think it's just a hollow LLC, perhaps formed to conceal the real parties involved. They only own one trademark, "overnight." I then googled for "Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer." Jim Jackoway is an attorney, known to represent J.J. Abrams -- and happens to be the registrant for BadRobot.com. (whois search) What are the odds that a lawyer (Jackoway) who represents Abrams would register a trademark using the attorney of record who registered Slusho (Boatright)? Further googling shows no previous connection between Boatright and Jackoway. Is "Overnight" really the title of the film? As the trailer so eloquently stated, "this is going to be the best night ever..."

I guess we will see what happens.

J.J. Abrams mystery movie comes to Comic-Con

Our own CameronJr9 (Scott Gibson) was recently featured in a segment of CNBC's "On the Money."

Project Cloverfield has compiled the blogs from all the characters' MySpace pages.

If you want to stay updated with the Myspace blogs that belong to the 1-18-08 cast, you can subscribe to each blog separately. However, if you would like to subscribe to just one feed that pulls in all seven blogs, you can subscribe to http://feeds.feedburner.com/projectcloverfield/myspace (alternatively you can add this syndicated feed: 11808blogs to your livejournal friends list.)
If you do not want to subscribe, but would rather just view on occasion, you can visit feeder.projectcloverfield.com/MyspaceBlogs/. However, do note that the timestamps that are being shown at Feeder are the actual timestamps that these entries were originally created. The dates that are posted at the blogs itself have been edit (backdated) to appear as if though they were posted months upon months ago.

There has also been a lot of talk about the significance of these MySpace profiles. Could the characters themselves give us clues to what this movie is about? While it's certainly possible, this blogger thinks the characters are as clueless as we are.
